wow... the first piece is almost done. it looks awesome
i was a little worried, but all the sweat has payed off.
now, i just gotta find the cable for my cam and then it's time for show
and not just tell.

this is the first pic from my phone. just one coat of resign on the fiber, but it looks real good already. also i just layed the old leather console on it to see what it looks like.
now you all can flame me

So are you covering the old panel with carbon fiber or making a 100% new one?

the design calls for a 100% new one , lighter and non-warping.
but to be cost efficient, it can't be a production of just 10 of them.

and hacker, to be honest with you, i don't think making the mold
is that big of an issue that everyone likes to make it to be.
i made one already for a smaller part. all i used for it was a vacum cleaner (!)
and pulled enough of a vacuum to get an excellent mold out of the original part.

if there is a will, and there is a ******* will
and there is a ******* way.
there always is a way. (pardon my french)

Sounds creative!

I can't wait to see the finished product - I always thought the door panel was a bit 'too much'.

I think covering the existing panel is a good idea Ceedee. I might be interested in doing that to mine. The center insert in my widebody is covered in faux CF already. There are other things in the car that could benefit from this. A cracked dash could be re-covered in CF for about $150 in materials. That is about 1/3 of the cost of leather. You could be on to something here.

none of them are are on the car yet, I've been in the gathering stage for a while now, but yeah, I'll snap a few shots in the next day or so. As to where I bought them, either craiglist, ebay or making them.

ok got a few pics here
this is the first version. i may put carbon fibre on the bottom as well. but for now i covered it
with some carpet material. i have to see what it looks like when it's installed.

you can see the fastening system very well here. it gives it a nice racing theme.

the panels can be taken of in a heart beat this way.

many of you remember what my doorpanels used to look like , so this is a great improvement.

and you can be sure it is 100% unique
