I think if was going to get a car to compliment the 928 it would have to be on the other end of the spectrum.. Like a Range Rover or Land Cruser

My reasons against a miata are personal... when they first came out my wife (at the time) wanted one bad... I sat in the seat and tried to close the door and it just bounced against my arm... I'm about three inches too wide at the shoulders for one of those.
If I had enough room and money for a second "Fun" car.... (and I already have a pick up and my wife's Honda Fit) it would be a hard choice because I'd want something totally different than the "GT" character of the 928... probably full sport, light, high reving nature... One of those 550 beck spyder replica's would be nice... 3rd gen RX7 turbo...

Who says a 911 isn't practical?
I find that having two cars so opposite in nature makes me appreciate each other even more. The 928 is such a fantastic experience with luxury, power & comfort & ......automatic transmission. The 911 is more raw and fun to throw around while banging thru the gears.

Perfict car to go with a 928? Hmmm?
Well it depends on what your plans are. Is this car to be your daily driver? If it’s a daily driver your looking for then the Miata is probably as good as any assuming you don't have to haul anything more than a briefcase it should be fine. Personally I’ve never been a huge fan of the Miata and feel unless you’re a serious weekend warrior/campaigner it does have a cutesy secretary persona that I can’t get past.
Myself I use my Supercrew 4x4 as my daily driver and my second “fun” car is my MGB (actually the B was before the Shark). But if I was looking to replace my B I’d probably have to go with another Roadster. Possibly an older Z3.
Here are my twins - a 1978 MGB & a 1978 Shark.

Preach on... however, BMW's are also 3x as hard to take apart on the inside. Heater core change comes to mind.
The perfect addition to a 928 *is* a 928. (I'm biased.) I like a good turbo'ed M20 BMW, also an engine known to take a lickin'...

I'd go with something totally different... as a contrast - I liked the idea of the Cayenne but I'm not enamoured with the look yet (awaiting more revisions) - so I'd go with my long time desire to have a Range Rover.
I always wanted to get a 928 and a Range Rover. I do go off road for camping etc and need a vehicle for that and ski trips, long vacations, hauling big stuff etc.
At least this way there is virtually no comparison - except that its also a vehicle that is luxurious as well as excellent at doing what its targetted at.

I've got the 2 cars I really wanted: a 928 and a 540 wagon. They complement each other well, and I have to say I'm very pleased everytime I get into either of them, and when I'm driving one I never wish I was driving the other. While that's probably the dumbest thing we've all ever heard when talking about the 928, it's certainly a testament to the 540.
Plus, I have the same choice in cars as Tim Murphy.

Well, as you can see I've got both. I got my Miata in '92 with @ 29K miles on it. It now has 197K on it and the engine has never been apart, and with the exception of a 3 year break when I had an MR2, has been autocrossed every year I have had it. They are simply indestructable and very easy to work on and maintain, a total contrast to the 928. Those of you insinuating the chick car thing have issues with your manhood They are a blast to drive. That being said, if I had to give one of my cars up... Miata's are a dime-a-dozen
