Default ABS and average miles per hour

My ABS light is on and the electronic dash does not indicate average miles per hour is there a link between the two?

Probably for 89 and definately for 1990 .The wheel sensors for the ABS are used for the signal for the speedometer in ALL 1990 > so very possible with the 89 which uses the first of the digital dashes. If the ABS light comes on immediately it is probably a relay and often is the smaller silver one on the ABS hydraulic unit accessed from under the fender. If the ABS light ONLY comes on after you drive 1/2 block or so then it is PROBABLY a sensor or wire connection.

If I turn the car on and just let it sit the ABS does not come on it's only after I put it in drive and move forward perhaps 10 or 15 feet does the ABS light turn on. So it makes sense that one of the wires or sensors is bad, thanks Jim

Correct as soon as you move "enough" the ABS brain sees that one wheel is "not moving" and shuts down the brain ,throws the warning . Most of the time it is just a bad connection

Big Jim- thanks for helping me troubleshoot my ABS issues.Just looking forward to the other new relay to solve the problem. Again, with the jumper installed, I made some 80 mph "panic stops" and the system worked like a charm- where previously a lockup/ flat- spotting would have occured. --Dave
