I just wanted to know if you are limited to 3 or 4 figures in this game. I am game for a strong 3 figure bet, if you are willing to break $500, then place your bets.

Don't know how they do it but if you've ever been beat out at the last moment....and can't believe you got ambushed, it likely was special bidding software. EBay has something similar but it's not as good nor fast, but highest dollar usually gets it. But you do need to post the max you'll bid ahead of time. The best time to bid is in the last moments of auction. I don't know what happens when two people are using the same kind of bidding software and have the same maximums.

Serious and frequent bidders seldom miss if they really want something. I learned the hard way.

How badly do I want these covers? You'll see.

There are only the bidder's limits. I always suggest putting in the max you'd want to pay and let the computer sort out the rest rather than wishing you'd bid more after the auction. Or having buyer's remorse. It it helps, I'm weighing alternatives, as Rob and Heinrich have suggested. It boils down to what they're worth to you...and do you want original or replicas? New or aged? Sounds like new replica may not be very cheap either?

If you want these particular covers, the bidder you need to be concerned will not be me. I sticking to 3 figures. I hope you get them Andre...and cheap. I don't like the idea of bidding against you. But like I said, I'm not your concern. Someone else may want them more than either of us? And, at the last minute, some unknowns have been known to jump out of the woodwork. I've lost several cars thinking I had it sewed up. A seller once even called me up and wanted to know how I wanted the car shipped....only to have someone out bid me 3 minutes later. I've often wondered if the call were a distraction? I wish I'd bid more on that car upfront many times. Oh well. Se la vie.

So how high were you willing to go?

Your snipe got me cause I was about to lay out $750.

Also if you can layout $598 for seats you can afford $18 for a membership

I was prepared to go $500, but 15 minutes beforeauction end it passed that. So I thought seriously about how much it would cost to have the upholstery done from scratch by a pro, assuming I could get the material, balanced the fact that this isn't new material and isn't black w/ blue, and decided to bump it up to the next $100 level bacause it looked like the other bidders were snipping too, and hadn't actually bid the whole amount they'd be willing to pay. Let that be a lesson to you

I figured if I timed it perfect, I'd pay $100 more than I wanted to but less than what someone else wanted to pay, and if I timed it badly then I wouldn't get something I thought was overpriced anyway. Funny how the free market operates. I'm assuming you were Bidder5?

The person you out bid was me

Enjoy, and I want some close up pictures so I can pay to have new material made.

Now you see how Snipe software can work....with only 2/10ths of a second left, Bronto walks away with the prize. You can't get the Internet and eBay to work that fast in the last seconds of an auction without special software.... I'm not even sure blind luck could beat Snipe and blind luck is the best helper I have but it's very inconsistent.

Congratulations, Bronto! Enjoy! I'm truly pleased for you.

I was just going to hang them in my game room as a work of art. I'm glad they're going to the west coast. They're a west cost kind of thing.

Harve-
Now...back to pondering my gas hose issue...the hose that was sent to me by a large east coast dismantler looks like it could have come from a car that partially burned. The hose is hard as a rock and really smokey dirty. I have $50 in this used POS hose. Just because the group is a Rennlist sponsor and regular lister doesn't mean you're always going to be treated fairly. Their promise to look for and send a better condition hose was quickly forgotton by them. And reminder calls/emails go ignored. That's not bad though. I could have bought something a heck of a lot more expensive than a stinkin' hose from them and gotten ripped off. I should look at the positive side...I ONLY lost $50. And, I'll NEVER buy from them again. That could be worth a lot. But you ask, "Does this have ANYTHING to do with the Pasha Seat Covers?" Yes...more than you know...how many hoses could I have bought with what I'd have paid for those seat covers?

FWIW, it was a manual click that won it for me. I do internet work daily for a living and am familiar with the response speeds of the various links in the chain we call the internet, and while I would see sniping software as a very useful thing for things that don't matter, and in which there is room for (perhaps) a 5 second margin of error, I wouldn't for anything less than that. For an automated system to do this down to the second, the software would have to determine that an existing bid has been surpased, parse the new value and post a new value very, very quickly. For the timing to be down to the second, the two servers would have to be perfectly time-synced, and the load would have to be low enough on the sniping server to have no delay. So I'm very skeptical. I just synced my watch to the ebay server, opened two browser windows, and with 10 seconds left refreshed to be sure the value hadn't changed, switched to the other window had hit submit, which was already on the confirmation. Now, if someone had bid more than me in the last 10 seconds, I would have lost, but then it would be because they bid more than I was willing to pay, which is fair & square.

That only affects '87 and later cars because of larger torque converter.

when dumb luck is on my side, I win. But, from many parts of Idaho, Interenet response times are too slow to to what you did, Bronto. I haven't followed Snipe software for a few years now but some companies used to position servers close to eBay links so as to get a response advantage. Maybe it's changed now?

I wouldn't even mind a pasha tee shirt. I couldn't find even Nicole's rumored pasha mini skirt in a search today....not a throw pillow. If they wer making pillows and clothng not long ago, there must be some company with the pattern stored on their hard drive. Bronto's search doesn't sound hopeful.

I am a little surprised to learn that the end date of EBay autions are fixed. I have used other net-autions, and usually 5minutes is added each time you bid just before the end time. I can't see why EBay don't do this? Then the person with the deepest pocket could get the item and not the fastest clicker...
