it's that chicken and egg situation.
is it because we got 928, what makes living worthwile or is it having heinrich as a friend, with all his niners and his devotion, that does it.
i tell you... you tell me!!!

Any car kept in good shape for 100 years from when new will become an investment by default. How many do you think will be left in 75 years? Mine probably wont because I drive it, but I dont see it as my main investment either.

I fell in love with the 928 when I was a teenager. One day I knew I would have one. That day came about a year ago, and I was very fortunate to get a car that had always been taken care of. The money I've put in the car has been preventative/regular maintenance mostly. Having a 928 is a "choice" for most here. I'm sure most 928 owners here could afford a new/late model 911 (i.e. 993/996/997) but choose a 928 as it's what they've always wanted. Not just a Porsche they could afford.

I've caught myself contemplating the purchase of late model 911 with all the bells and whistles. However, I still look at the 928 and think it's the sexiest thing on four wheels. The curves, the Porsche V8 rumble, the exclusivity. I don't find these in the 911 (my brother has had several). My wife thinks I'm silly though, and doesn't understand my infatuation with such an "old" car. The day I quit looking at my car and thinking WOW! I have a 928, will be the day to look for a different car.

I didn't buy the car for any type of investment other than an investment in my dream of owning a 928. Few people can say they're living their dream. At least I'm living a small part of my dream. I'm pretty o.k. with the rest of my life too at this point. I've been very lucky.

I own two restaurants, work 80-100 hours a week and have 60 employees. I do not golf, hunt, ski, bowl, fish, play tennis, have a summer home or boat. I do not go on long, expensive vacations or gamble at casinos. I am not sure if my 928 is the cause or the effect of all these things, but I do enjoy the automobile immensly when I drive it; moreso than all of the other ones I have owned in the past as well as the other ones I have currently. Investment? No. Toy? No. Money Pit? Probably less than the aforementioned hobbies others have. Why don't we quit trying to analyze everthing and call it what it really is: FUN! (and fun does cost money)

I have a relatively new Audi TT Turbo Quatto.....but I almost never drive it. It has many of the new bells and whistles, is "cool" looking (but not classic looking) and I don't count it as a real sports car. It's more of a guzzied up VW. I'd sell it but the wife likes it. What a waste. The 928 and the 968, altough older cars, are much, much better cars. The Camry is more comfortable on trips than is the Audi TT.

Back in the old days (5 years ago), before my husband and I knew the real deal with 928's, we were in love with them and wanted one. Badly. We were also in the foolish school of thought that we could restore one to pristine and use it as part of our retirement nest egg. Hey, it would be an antique by then, and look how much some of those other American cars go for when they are 40-75 years old! Right? Sigh.

It only took us a year and about $10K in repairs for us to realize that was a ridiculous notion and to decide that we still loved the car, but were in it too deep (when considering the anticipated costs of the work needed going forward) to ever get our money back out. Now it's just a fun, expensive toy and hobby to us.

STILL LOVE IT!!

They are an investment like having kids!!!!!....they will always cost you more, and sometimes you pull your hair out....but one good day and all the troubled times disappear.

I've invested Blood, Sweat, Tears, Time, Pounds (Sterling) Dollars (NZ and OZ) and Heartache on Rennlist.

That makes the 928s an investment.

Like Outlier said: I didn't buy the car for any type of investment other than an investment in my dream of owning a 928.

I had 2 jobs for the past 20 years to maybe some day have the chance to own my dream car: A Porsche 928. I bought it 2 years ago and still look at it and can't believe I own the most beautiful and wonderful car of the world. And I realy believe it. The 928 is and will be for ever the car of my life. I think it is as much fun owning the car than driving it, and like many of us, working on it... And by the way thank you to all Rennlist member to be such a good help.
