Okay...these sharks suck up dollars like i never knew they could...
I buy a nice 88 928S4 in October, well maintained, and I still have had to invest heavily (I'm calling it an investment so I don't have to call it an expense).
I'm sure there are plenty of friends here that have spent or done more, but here goes (I'm trying to make myself feel better):
New tires;
High speed wheel balance
New black Lloyd mats with gold lettering (to contrast with the champagne interior), including cargo mat;
Professional detail and polish;
Champagne steering wheel and shifter (black w/ gold stitching);
Quick shifter ****(928 Motorsports);
Zimmermann drilled rotors;
Mintex pads;
Cleaned and painted calipers (Red);
Brushed aluminum lug nuts
Colored Crest wheel caps (Rennlister);
new drivers door seal installed (old one was torn)
Oil change;
New power steering resevoir and hoses, and fluid flush;
Brake fluid flush;
Coolant flush;
New timing belt, water pump, seals, rollers...the whole kitandkaboodle...;
New belly pan (finally go it installed TimDelarm);
To Do List:
tint side and rear windows;
have bent rear right rear wheel repaired (found during high speed balance);
replace carpet (install black carpet, remove champagne..haven't decided)
and finally....DRIVE THE DAMN THING

Good idea to consider it an investment! There's no loss until you sell and then you just play dumb with the wife - "gosh honey, I had no idea that's all it'd be worth! And here I thought I was padding our retirement."

I'm no mechanic...so the timing belt/water pump thing was a lot (labor), the leather and rotors seemed cheap by comparison.....on the other hand I will absolutely not add up the receipts. Arghhhhhh.....
Heres to racking up some miles....

Thats not a list. That's like yearly maintenance. If you want to see a list, I could email my list to you although my service provider would charge me a lot extra for all the bandwidth the file would take up.
Drive it and have fun.

Not necessarily true, power steering and timing belt cover both were leaking, rear rotors and pads were goners....but you are right that a good portion of the list wasn't required and some of it is just normal maintenance, other stuff was bling....I'm not crying as much about the expense as I thought I would.
I have had quite a few different (sport/classic cars) and I like to get everything "just right", within reason! It's what I like to do.
