Default After Market Seat Heaters

I searched Renn List and got confused, but I am sure this topic has come up before.

I am rebuilding the seats for the convertible and want to add seat heaters. Looking at the way Porsche did theirs and how often they break, I am planning on using after market units. Does anyone have a recommendation and a source? It would be ideal to be able to connect them to the Porsche switches.

Thanks much

Interesting. I wonder about this too. Maybe Paul Champaigne or Rob Budd will have a thought, might be a good addition to add when they recover seats for others....

I did this on my drivers seat. My pass seat only needed one element and 928intl had them on clearance, so I just did that. Do a search. I started a thread back in '03 and got a lot of tips from greg86andahalf. The new technology heaters I bought were carbon fiber I think. Here is a link to their website. I got them off eBay from the same place.

Unfortunately, my drivers side swich was toast and a new one was like $150 back then. So I junked the whole system and put the aftermarket heater switch where the lumbar control is supposed to be since all I had there was a blank panel. There is not many wires to hook up.

I also used the cobra heaters.
Reupholstered my 928 driver's and passenger and I put a kit in the ol' lady's mustang convertible.

I don't use them much but she says she can't go back without them.

Pretty easy to install too.

I installed this unit when I reupholstered my 944 seats. Works great! But the shape of the 928 seats is different.

Price is about the same as the unit above.

But the ultimate in winter comfort is a parking heater. I know you guys in the US have no idea that a system like this exists. Independent and very convenient. I installed a unit in my 944 S2 (winter car). 20 minutes before you leave the house you push the button on the remote and the ice melts on the car, the inside is warm and there is no engine cold start anymore.

Thanks all for the replies. I will post some pictures when I get to the job in the next couple of weeks. It looks like the sources are all selling very similar units with two levels of heat, but for very different prices. The panels seem to range in price from about a low of $80 a seat to as much as $250.

I've considered doing this as well. Does anybody have pics of the stock seat heat switches for comparison?
