Talking Ok, I took the plunge and bought myself a 928 project...;-)

Hello Rennlist Members,

I just wanted to say a quick hello and write a short intro, as I am certain you will hear lots and lots of questions from me in the future.

Since I was a little kid growing up only about 20 miles away from the "birthplace" of the 928, I always loved these cars and knew that one day I will own one. I don't exactly know what it is about the 928, but just seeing that beautifully shaped rear-end might have something to do with it...seems to to it for me in cars as in the opposite sex...LOL!

So, over the years I started (and even finished!) quite some projects, worked as a mechanic in Germany during my college time, but for some reason never dug into a 928 even though that I always kept an eye on the classifieds and such.

Well, little while ago I saw one in a local ad-magazine that needed an engine as it was not in the car, but the body was in beautiful shape (did I mention that even though I do it, body work is the one thing that kind of bugs me?).
So, today I took a look at my new love and needless to say, I could not resist. It's an '81 928 5-Speed that pretty much needs a ground up restoration and an engine (besides some other things), but even the paint is in gorgeous condition.

The seller of the car is a member here as well, I believe, and he is one of the nicest guys around...tracking a supercharged 928 and very knowledgeable. A compliment to the people on the list here as well, as the few contacts I had so far were very welcoming and supportive. Especially Juvius is an awesome guy who helped me out so much already in the last two days!!! Thanks again, man!

So, like I said, I am sure I will have many questions in the near future, I am planning to pick up the car in 2 weeks when a friend of mine has time to go there with me and his flatbed tow truck. Until then I will do some research and lots of reading I guess. Thank you already in advance for everyone that will be helping me out and sharing their knowledge and experiences.

Have a great weekend,
Marcus...;-)

Marcus,

Congrats and welcome. Good luck on your project. There are quite a few of us 'new blood' 928 owners here in the Northeast who finally got their dream car and are spending their days and nights working on them or thinking about working on them.

Let me be the first to say, 'Pics please!'.

Hello Mike!

Thanks for the welcome! Pics will follow as soon as I get the car to my house. At the moment it is still sitting in the sellers yard with lots of ice on it, but in two weaks from today it should be in a nice warm garage and I can take some pics. In the mean time I will see if I can find the pics from the seller to give you at least an idea. It seems that, from talking to Juvius on here, this car once was listed on eBay and some of you might have seen it there.

Thanks again and have a great day,
Marcus...;-)
