Misc. 928 Radio Notes
I just got through talking with Stefan Weiss (SW Stereo Specialists, 3815 Highway 17 South, New Bern, NC 28562 800.270.2378) about some radios that I have around collecting dust and I thought you might be interested in his comments:
Blaupunkt New York SQR 05 - Code hard to get, "Very old, replace it"
Reno CR-1A - Difficult to get code, "Very old, replace it" I think it's an Alpine.
Becker CR-220 Model BE 4361 - Very good radio but doesn't lend itself to the 928 because a bad viewing angle makes it difficult to see the display. Adapter face place to make it 928-friendly can be about $140 or so. This radio came stock in Porsche 996 and Boxsters, 1999-2002. Adapter "pigtails" from SW Stereo for this radio cost $45 plus shipping. Nice unit but it does play cassette tapes, not CDs.
He has a 928 direct plug-in radio for $189 listed on his website that's supposed to be a good replacement for the stock 928 (DeerBorne). I've not looked at it and can't tell you anything about it.
I have no association with this vendor other than I once bought a great CD-210 radio from him and I really like it. Also, rather than sell me a $45 pigtail for the CR-220 I have, he warned me about the viewing angle issue and I decided to hold off a while. It's like new...but I'm not sure I want to install it now.
If anyone has a use for any of the above radios, let me know.
I also have a Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 that I'm keeping. Interestingly, he says that these do not have security codes (I didn't know this).
