Default Rear Hatch Won't Latch

Hey All:

Today I went to close the rear hatch, and it just won't latch. First time this has happened. I unplugged the int. light wire and had to leave it open.

What's up with that? What's the fix?

Thanks,

Tim

could be the plastic insert that goes into the receiver. They wear out over time.

The only way to get one is to buy a whole new hatch receiver, around $130 when I bought mine.

Also try the round bumpers on each corner. They screw in and out for adjustment purposes.

It could be as stated above, that the receiver needs to be adjusted upward a bit. They can get loose.

I know this because I have had to do this, and I read it here on the list.

Did you try a search?

Here's one topic with almost the exact same title as yours:

I played around with mine and tried all the adjustment tricks I could find listed...but the plastic insert was buggered a bit and it would never reliably lock/unlock. So, after several years, I finally caved and bought the receiver piece new, with new plastic insert and it's worked perfectly ever since for me. Seems like an obscene amount of money but you may have few choices.

I have the same problem at the moment. Come to think of it; it happened the same way you describe. I just wake up one morning and the hatch will not latch! On mine, the white plastic thing was broken in two pieces. ...This calls for a new hatch release. Probably the same for you I am guessing.

I always do a search, but didn't see that title.

The funny thing is that the plastic piece looks fine. everything looks just as it has always been. Might be this fuse thing listed in the other post.

Thanks for the replys,

Tim

Pull the tool panel and check the electric opener - if the arm has stopped at the bottom (the unlock position), the latch will not function.

If the arm has stopped at the bottom, check the fuses...

Check all of the previous and good suggestions. If still not latching, latch could be stuck in the unlock position. Try turning key to the lock position. If it clicks, latch was stuck and it should close properly. I have ran into this several times.

Had that problem once, wouldn't latch, so I inserted the key and locked and unlocked the key switch at the hatch and problem solved.
