Default Battery and battery hold down questions

Some of you may know that I, through the grace of gawd almighty, came into/purchased/rescued a '91 S4 that was semi-apart.

This included the battery being not installed when I got the car, although a new, allegedly properly sized one was provided with said car. Genuine Les Schwab it is, no less. It tested like new so I decided to go with it.

I didn't see anything that I would call a battery hold down, although at the bottom of the "box" or "tray" that the thing goes into I see a sort of springy thing that appears to keep the battery in place once the weight of the battery is in there. Is that all there is?

Also, the shop that is sorting some last little details is telling me that I'm missing the plastic cover that goes over the positive terminal. Is there indeed such an item? It would have to be pretty unigue as that positive terminal connection is shaped like no other car I've ever seen. They are telling me it is commonplace for the positive terminal to be too close to the lid and arc on it as a result.

I do believe there is a bolt down on the rear(?) side of the battery and in addition a cover should cover the positive terminal.

I just changed the battery on my '87 about two weeks ago. There is a metal bracket at the rear part of the battery compartment that holds the battery down and secured with an allen screw (I think - I changed in out pretty quick -either a screw or allen head screw). The battery should come with a plastic cap for the positive side. The battery sits pretty high and the battery compartment cover is metal so I made sure the new battery had the cap.

This cap is a flap attached to the battery on the stock style battery - the terminal is recessed below the top surface of the battery. The hold down - again works for the stock style battery - may not for all - is a lip at the forward (wrt car) end and a bolt down wedge shaped thing at the back (wrt car).

If you have the wrong battery - it can be a bad thing since it will be very hard to secure it well and it will bounce around in there... at least make sure the + terminal is well covered.

Batteries don't like vibration, no clamp could mean a short life.
