You might be thinking of the 77-82 Euro 4.5L

In '83, they only sold 4.7L Euro motors

I was questioning Andrew's 242hp post. I was not aware of a 242hp ever avaialbe for the 928. They were either the US model of 234 or the Euro (ROW) 300hp. I don't think there was ever a 242hp engine.

The 80-83 300Hp Euro's were CIS. This one has CIS, but as stated above, the block numbers would need to be checked.

If anyone is honestly interested, I'm in the Twin Cities (at -17F, no less) and would be happy to run up to Rice to check it out. Maybe I could talk one/several of the other local 928ers into it. Let me know if I can help.

Andrew,

How come that list shows the '85 US 928 at 292hp when in the owners manual it states that the engine output is 288hp? Also the '83 is shown as a 242hp engine when in fact it's 234. There has to be something wrong with that list. Perhaps during the conversion from Kw to HP, some of the values were runded up.

Could be the difference between hp and bhp? Dunno. Maybe too much weed, or not enough?

Did you have trouble with a smog test related to the cams?

I never had an issue with my '80 Euro S under Mass. emission inspections. Ironically it passed without cats in place. It wasn't until I had the car 8 years before someone did a visual inspection and failed me due to the lack of cats.

83-86 the dollar was kicking **** against the DM. It sucked for me at the time as I taught tennis lessons in Frankfurt and got paid in DM's.. However my Dad was able to get a brand new 928 , drive it 2 years, ship it, federalize it and still break even selling it back in the states. In 85 I got a 73 carrerra for about $2000 because of the exchange rate. The same car when I first got to Germany in 83 would have been $6-7K and out of my range at the time. 2 years and a huge change in the exchange rate made a big diofference. Sad thing is when I returned to the states for college I went form the 911 to a '80 mustang coupe 4 cylinder...

the number of gray market vehicles is directly proportional to the exchange rate at the time.
