Hey,
I just got done with a project I've been thinking about for a while. I wanted to take a stab at wood inserts for my door panels. I made these out of stained oak, with a few coats of clear poly. I think they might be too light in color, so now that I've got the process down I think I'll see if I can get some more interesting wood like a walnut burle or a something with a more interesting grain pattern that I can stain darker than this.
Anyway, any thoughts?

Hi Mike,
Looks real nice. I think that lighter wood actually look very modern in these cars although it takes some getting used to. I did mine with zebrawood and stained it with walnut stain to help it blend in more. My interior is brown. I have considered macassar ebony, but have not got around to changing it. See post #47 below for pics. The wood is not as light as it looks in the pics.
Good luck,

Dave,
That looks awesome in zebrawood. I like the look of that horn a lot. It all goes well with your interior. I'm sporting black vinyl and beige carpeting (hopefully soon to be replaced) so I was thinking of a little wood accent in there. I want to do something with the console but I don't know if that's above my ability or not and if I buy those, they won't match the door panel inserts.
It was a cool exercise though, about $20 worth of wood and a few hours. My rear seat delete is going to have some wood trim as well, but only as an accent, hopefully it won't seem like I'm going too far.
