Intermediate muffler/resonator replacement on an 87s4
Im just bolting my exhaust back up after smogging the car and have now discovered that my driver side resonator/muffler rattles internally when i shake it.
Im currently running a Motorsport Xpipe, stock S4 resonators and a RMB. Im tossing around the idea of getting some mufflers welded in where the current resontaors are...leaving the RMB and the X pipe as is.
Anyone done this or can recomend a size, model and part number for replacement.
Thanks

Tony,
You made me feel guilty about the spoiler.
I have two S4 resonators for you cheap, however shipping may spoil it for you.

Ok, I decided I should do some research on what exacltly the differeince between a resonator and muffler is. This seemed reasonable. (?):
This implies that the resonator is generally *after* the muffler, which is the opposite of the 928. The article specificially talked about this earlier.
This pretty much the deal? If so, what's up with the 928's design? This would explain why the GT resonators don't lend themselves well to having the rear muffler removed.
On the outside, a resonator looks the same as a muffler. But inside there are usually fewer baffles and restrictions. The muffler provides the primary means of sound control, so the resonator only has to clean up the noise that escapes the muffler.

fabric,
You have sparked my curiosity for an exhaust combination that I have not seen. Has anybody out there left the rear muffler in place, installed an x-pipe, and removed the resonators and replaced with a straight pipe? What would this sound like? What would the HP figures be?
