Okay, so what do you really gain from this other than a slight weight savings and a little bit of storage?

Perry,

In addition to 'adding lightness', I'm also trying to:

1: Get rid of a part of the car that really doesn't work for me, physically and design-wise. I think if you're going to have back seats they should be real back seats. I've never liked 2+2 seats in any car I've ever had.
2: My rear seats and rear cargo area looked like crap and had to be redone anyway.
3: If I can get it right, it will look from inside and out like the car was always a two-seat sports car, which is really the kind of car I think this should have been in the first place, and what I think it ought to be.

Well I am a couple years behind on this post. LOL. I just picked up my 928 this weekend and like it sounds in this thread, my back seats are never going to get used plus my cargo area can afford to have some attention. As it turns out, the PO already took out the seats(for a recovering project that didnt happen) so I have step 1 checked off the list already. He had also installed all new mids and highs(Boston Aucustic) and the amp is currently laying in the spare tire well. I have done things like this before to another car that I own but was curious how this project turned out...any recent pics or pics after it was all done? Thanks-Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I think it came out OK in the end. I'll have to take some new pics. I had some from when it was first completed but someone asked me for them recently and I couldn't find them anywhere.

Thanks for asking, I'll try to get some pics and update the thread this weekend.

What is the material used for the delete? Wood?

Jim's delete has been something I have been dreaming of for years.

I look forward to the pics.

*jwillman*Nice job! I like the storage all while having some "sound" too. That is the direction I am leaning too, I think. I will probably not use MDF, I have some pressed board material (from another car project on my Mustang) that works great for these applications, although MDF is nice to work with....heck I dont know which to use.

I dont have pics handy, but I sectioned an stretched a factory 968 rear seat delete from the cab model. Looks really close to factory. A lot of work, but worth a look.

I used 1/2 MDF and built the subframe 1x2 wood leveraging the existing seat belt and seat mount holes. I did not drill any new holes.

Now that you have had those seats for a while what do you think of them? How much headroom did you gain again (not counting the sunroof delete?)

Jeff, These seat bottoms have less foam in them and therefore firmer than the comfort seats that came out. I would guess one 1" more headroom. Sunroof delete was at least another 2". T
