Question for those who've owned 944 and 928
I've had 2 944 models, an '86 and an '87. One thing that was really cool was that the ventilation fan could not be heard, even when set on the highest setting. One could hear the air, but not the actual fan, I really liked that, but my 928 fan ('81 928) is much more noticeable. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just a total freak ? I want my 928 fan to be quiet (and it all of it's dinner!) like my 944 fans.

My 944 was very quiet too as I remember, but what I hear in the 928 is duct, not fan noise as far as I can tell. I don't like it, but maybe I will get used to it, or find something to do about it. I don't recall fan noise in my 81 928, but that would just put it among many things I don't recall from 20 years ago.

So, some 928's make air noise, or some of us are just a little hard of hearing?
If I slide the climate controls to the left, OFF, no sound, set it to the right and I get air noise, and it doesn't sound to me like fan noise, just air moving through a duct, and since its low speed no idea why it should be audible.

Scott,
Do a search on the hvac blower. There were two or three really good threads that people have started. The fan bearings go bad and make noise, then they start to squeal. I thought mine were bad from the inside, then I got out with it on, man it's really loud from the outside of the car.
I think in some models you can just oil the bearing from outside the housing but in mine it's sealed and needs to come out (hood needs to be removed!). Everyone said that with new bearings or a new blower it's silent .
