Ryan, if you go with Just Dashes, don't be in a hurry. They do good work, are very expensive, but I have never heard of a customer who got his dash back in a reasonable amount of time. Six weeks would be the bare minimum and something more like 3-6 months is more likely.

"I recommend against the use of Armorall and other such products. I find looking at the cores that the worse pods are the ones with the highest Silicon content. After a while the surface of the pod can get so burnt that it is soft to the touch. Any pressure will cause indentations. I am not sure if Armorall is the cause, but the silicon content on these seems to be higher than on the better cores with fewer cracks and less sun burn. Maybe people load up the Armorall after a dsah starts to crack, but why take the chance. "

Podguy, I respect your expertise...but on this subject I have to disagree.

You are familiar with 928 instrument pods; I suspect then that you realize that many Volkswagens also used a similar material for the whole dashboard. All VW Rabbit [Golf I] that were built in Germany had the hard material for the dash, along with all of the derivative Jetta and Scirocco Mk1 and Mk2 cars, and the early Passat. Several Audi's had this stuff too.

I drove an '85 Scirocco around Florida for 8 years and used Armor-all on the dashboard frequently. I never had a single crack- even after the car was brought to northern Virginia and suffered through a cold winter, with temps down to 10 degrees F.

-Armor All contains alcohol, and if you use it then STOP using it...it actually removes moisture from the surface, allowing it to dry more than it would have if nothing had happened. Continuous use of this stuff is like waxing your paint, in my opinion. If you use Armor All regularly, I'm convinced it WILL prevent cracks in a 928 pod. My current '85 928 came with a cracked pod when I bought it in 1999. I found a **perfect** uncracked pod on a wrecked '79 928 in a junkyard in 2002, and I've used Armor-All on it since. I'm pretty careful about keeping my car in its garage, but it is a daily driver when I'm home in Fort Lauderdale, and it sits out in the sun for hours on end on a regular basis.

The important thing to remember about Armor-All: If you use it once you need to keep using it.

Just Dashes has their own brand of spray protector, sounded pretty good for $7 a bottle.

Anybody know just how much a dash and pod costs from them? They only listed 78/85 btw.

Dan, I like you, and I appreciate the effort you have put in, but you shouldve fixed it right the first time. It is too much of a hassle to deal with guarrantees, pro rating, continuous shipping, and install and removal. I was not happy with the pod when i got it back from you and i guess i shouldve never installed it. Seeing that i have never been through this before i gave you the benefit of the doubt and let you make the decisions and was let down. now i feel i am out money and i have to buy a pod cover. Sorry but thats just the way it is.
