I hope this isn't a repost.. even if it is, it's well worth seeing again!

Yea, I think it's a repost, but I still love it.

Not sure if anyone mentioned the ROOTWOOD interior before though.

I only found out recently that the GTS in the video ( Clackson's Hot Metal DVD btw, not top gear) belonged to a friend of a friend . Unfortunately it burnt to the ground a year ago so is no more but the engine & g/box will live on in a S2. The GTS was a '95 manual with a brand new factory engine fitted under Porsche warranty.

P.S. the 'smoke' at the rear when Clackson accelerates away from a standstill is clutch smoke as JC pulled away in 2nd !

yes, it was the last GTS motor available from the Porsche factory.

For those who went to euro928 2002, it was one of the the 3 928 motors sitting on pallets; the only GTS of course. I think John Eifert took some good fotos. i did too but my camera was stolen.

There is apparently a significant amount of privately taken video of Simon (GTS owner) and Jeremy Clarkson discussing the car and 928s generally. There´s a possibility that it may eventually get uploaded.

Thanks for posting, hadn't seen it before. I also watched the "Cheap Porsche" Videos, both my wife and I were dieing of laughter. The 928 failed miserably (for obvious reasons) but it was hilarious to watch.

That cheap Porsche story is a laugh riot..saw it on t.v. some time ago. One of the funniest car related things I have watched.

Here is a barometer of his ability to really judge performance. Put it this way, i drove my 2nd time EVER at the track, in a 1984 928 on terrible suspension, skinny street tires to a 1:56 .

He has seen and driven a lot of cars, but hardly can appriciate the potential of a GTS 928!

Great video. But it made me stumble over this one as well:

I love the newer Aston Martins - never liked the old ones that competed against the 928 at its time, but today my favorite cars in production are from Aston Martin.

Hi Errka,

Yes, that is the motor.

I drove Simon's GTS with that motor in it plus he had new suspension; it was very smooth and loads of torque.

Hi Nicole

HTML Code:
What set it on fire?
Assumed to be a petrol pipe leak at the back.
He said;
"suddenly engine
> cut out, spluttered for a mo, total loss of
> power, coasted into lay-by
> ahead. Engine would crank, but would not
> start, engine management problem
> I thought............called AA, sending out
> patrol..............tried
> cranking again later while waiting for AA, loud
> buzzing noise at back of car
> (AA & Fire Broigade say it would be the fuel
> pump), then flames & a river of
> fire running down the hill behind the
> car"

BTW, it had the externally adjustable Koni shocks & Eibach springs with
greasable polyeurathane anti roll bar bushes & front & rear droplinks.

Probably the best GTS that I ever saw..

Marton
