ECU Repair Now Available in Toronto
Greetings All:
The ECU finally died in my 1990 GT. Was running badly and then would not start.
I was trying to decide who to send it to for repair. While I was on the JDSPORSCHE.COM website, I saw a link to a company in Toronto. His name is Mark D'Sylva and he is now an authorized agent for JDS Porsche. Mark keeps several of the replacement chips that John makes in stock with him and does a great replacing the chip and will go over your whole ECU and replace anything else that looks tired. Turn around time is fast. He was really great to deal with. He is also setup to test the MAF calibration.
I'm sure that the other companies that are doing this repair do a great job, but I really like the idea of not having shipping costs to other countries risking it getting lost in travel or having to pay duty and what not. It cost me $600cnd.out the door.
Mark's phone number is 416-463-8328. www.dsylva-tech.ca

Yeah, Louie Ott (Ott Performance Engineering, Mosier, Oregon) is the new JDS man Stateside. He's fixin' up my LH ECU right now! Cost is $495US. Speake is makin' moves.
Would've been nice having John Speake put his hands on the unit personally (gee, that sounds nasty!), but Ott is a mench, too, so I'm happy!

Hi Steaditim
I'm glad to hear that Mark did a great job for you :-)
Hi Chaad - Well, any unit from Louie is in fact repaired by my hands - Louie stocks rebuilt exchange units from me. Mark does the rebuilds himself.....
Don't forget my other Stateside suppliers also, 928SP for Spanner, SharkTuner, 928Intl for MAFs...

The units Mark will be providing are my rebuilt units, so price will be CAD equiv of 350USD plus carriage.
Mark will be building a calibrated flow jig for the 928 MAF, so he will be able to offer a calibration checking service in Canada.

My LH is 'winging' its way to Louie as we Speake.............he is located in the PNW so is much closer to Western Canadian locations than the folks in TO.
Not that there was much wrong with the car I just believe its prudent preventative maintenance.

The idea behind the MAF testing jig that Mark has is that you can test your MAF and see if it still functioning to the original specs. They do wear out and effect performance. If it needs replacing, Mark keeps one of John's rebuild ones in stock for immediate turn around.
What a great service to have locally. Good work guys.

Michael: I'm downtown & thanks for the invite. If I have time off in May, I'll make it 4 cars
Cheers,
Tim

No, Louie does not have a MAF test jig. He suppies on an exchange basis.
If your MAF has more than 80k miles, and throttle response is not too sharp and WOT power down, then MAF aging is a possible cause.

For those of you who do not know, Mark D'Sylva is the guru of design, manufacture and supply for BMW ECU performance chips, and is well known on the BMW forums ..... his chip would be in my E34, if a Dinan chip hadn't been installed long ago.
