Default Dry Sump Question No2

Hi everyone,

Quick question for the guys with dry sumps on their car. What is the diameter of the oil pick up points at the sump and what thread have you used. My welder wants to know so that he can fabricate the two oil pick up points on the pan with the correct diameter and thread to fit the hoses to the scavenge pump.

Thanks

from the pace website, it lists the following sizes with respect to fittings for its oil pumps: 1/2", 5/8", 3/4"BSP, -10/-12/-16 JIC, plus stems 1/2", 5/8", and 3/4" diameter. but which of these is the best size for a two point cavenge and whaqt the difference is between the stems and the other part i dont know??

The fitting where the oil filter screws on the engine has an I D of just over 1/2 inch... all the oil which circulates in the engine MUST pass through that one hole. Also max flow for the stock oil pump is said to be about 65 liters per minute at 5250 Rpm. The hoses need not be overly large to function and smaller is easier to plumb fit into the limited amount of space.

I use two AN-12 pickups feeding the scavenge pump. Welded in -12 bung and used a -12 screened screw-in fitting.
-16 to feed the stock pressure pump. Hope that helps.

Can you post any pictures of your dry-sump setup?

How's the tuning coming along?

Guys
Dash sizes - (-10 etc) relate to inch sizes . 1/8" = -2 & increase in equal measures ,1/2" = -8 , 5/8 = -10 , 3/4"=-12 etc . All hoses are measured on internal diameter while any solid pipe is measured on external diameter .
As you will know BSP & JIC etc refer to the thread form & angle & type of seal on the fittings. You can get adapters from one type to another & up & down sizes.
A local hydraulic shop (try to find a Pirtek & get a catalog, also online) ) can make up hoses alot cheaper than using braided SS hose & Red & blue fittings

SwayBar,

I'll post some pictures soon. I'm really trying to get everything "done" to make the Sebring Race in 4 weeks!
I still need to get back to the dyno and confirm my 6K rpm limit issue is gone and tune past 6K. Seems to be OK without a load right now.
So pictures and a dyno sheet(if I get a full rpm one) will be posted, but it may be after the race.

To further clear up the -AN sizes. It's based on x/16. So as stated by CF, a -12 is 12/16=.750"

We are pulling for you and your new engine over here, and hoping everything goes according to plan as we need to keep those 928 racecars out on the track!

Will you be able to do some testing on a track prior to Sebring to iron out the inevitable bugs after such a big project?

No

This is a very high risk, long tow race for me with an unproven car setup.
Logically I shouldn't go, but what the hey. It's warm in FL in February.

Thanks for the positive thoughts
