Removing 5spd bell housing & torque tube w the clutch still in?

wedge technique
Had similar trouble with my '80, as it had never had the engine removed before...
I used the hoist tied to the front of the engine, and pulled up, this finally created a small gap at the bottom of the "Engine-BellHousing Connection" (EBHC). I inserted a flat blade screw driver in each of these gaps, with light tap just to hold it into the EBHC.. then I hoisted on the back of the engine. this created a gap at the top, and thus it was pulled away along the entire surface. Repeated a couple of times and finally got the two apart.
The pins are steel and sieze in the aluminum block, making a real challenge to get apart. Since you're removing the bell housing and not the engine, do you have a gap at the top you can wedge something into, then lift on the TT/Bellhousing? I know you already have the clutch disconnected from the shaft, thus you're not stressing the shaft.

John, If you need a rear main seal tool, shoot me a pm and you can use mine.

Hopefully it will go well this weekend and we'll be back on the road next week. On the bright side, I already had new brake hoses that will go in easily since I have already removed the back end. Also, I can check my brake wear wiring before I put it all back together and hopefully get rid of the brake wear light problem. I just wish I had a set of coilovers to pop in since I'm 90% of the way there.

John,
After removing all four bolts, my bellhousing came off when I moved the rear end of the TT. If that doesn't work, I suggest you try to apply heat to the pinned areas - aluminum expands more than the steel pins.
