published 0-60 times ?
I was able to compare my SC'ed '91 GT the other day to a brand new M6 convertible and was very surprised that it was absolutely no contest. I was able to pull three car length ahead through second gear and easily pulled away at high speeds.
I looked the car up in a recent magazine and it is listed with a 4.1 sec 0-60 MPH.
I did not think that my GT would be a sub 4 second car, but I also don't think the fellow that drove the M6 was unable to press the gas pedal all the way to the floor.
I had similar results with other cars around 4 sec times such as E55, SL55, C4s ...
What's the scoup there and how are these 0-60 and 1/4 mile times calculated?
regards,
Sab.

Wow, great job!
On little different note, I wonder if the early 1980s 928s were losing some time due to much less sticky tires compared to today's tires.

Nice one Sab!
I think the thing is the "magazines" are done on a closed course...test pilot and all that stuff. In the real world its you VS him. I think as a whole we as 928 drivers tend to have a better feel for our cars than the average Joe that just drove his new sports car off the showroom floor.
However, that being said, all of these new cars have traction control and lightning fast automatics....and basically dumb things down for "Avg Joe" and give him the advantage. All he has to do is put his foot to the floor. Ive always wanted to see what an SC 928 would do aganst one of the new Bimmers.
I am EXTREMELY traction limited in my acceleration.

Sorry to be a buzz-kill but that M6 has BMW's i-drive. The computer defaults to a 400hp setting and it takes like 2-3 minutes to manually set it to 500hp "Race-mode." Pretty stupid if you ask me. Top Gear did a thing on this comparing the BMW, Aston Martin and the 911. It was hilarious how they had to go through all these different i-drive menus to get the M6 into race mode.

I had heard the 500Hp sport option is reset each time the car is turned off and has to be reselected each time before starting? Is that correct?
I saw one of the Astons today on my Bike ride. BEAUTIFUL car
hmmm... friends girlfriend has an '06 M6 coupe (after the Gallardo flamed) and she has no trouble getting to launch control. Uses it all the time. Maybe an initial learning curve?? Haven't tried myself.
[side note, his '06 Z06 always pulls the M6, but it's a respectable run.]

You might think that with all that computer control there would be a 'hotkey' function or something.
The guys on 'Top Gear' were playing it up, so I'm sure it's not all that bad, but it's definitely not a single button activation and it did seem like you couldn't do that as a 'default' mode. (they even joke about having a 500 hp 'sport' mode, as apposed to non-sport).
If you can't do it at a light without looking, it seems like somebody in engineering wasn't thinking about the function very much. I'm a programmer and I sometimes have to guess what the user is going to want to select and from where (then I write 'retro-specs' to match
). I like to think I would have put this one in a more accessible location instead of burying it three menus deep.
Having said all that, they were really impressed with the car and the one guy would have picked it as his favorite if they hadn't talked him out of it.

fwiw, have run side by side in SATA with 3 C5's (actually 1 was follow the leader), 2 AT, 1 MT. No movement, except the eye raising back in forth as nothing happens, followed by thumbs up out the window. On paper they should be faster, although all were rolling start. Now, 75 roll with a 6sp C6 with exhaust, was clearly out paced; SATA was disadvantaged right at 2/3 shift point, but still he pulled away w/out question.
Never believed the 0-60's, except to ballpark as more of a grouping.

Yeah, like a guy that wants to show off his new 100k ***** extension isn't going to press the power button to give it all he's got.
I am not that surprised by the result. My setup is pretty much identical to Sebastian. We have about 3500 lbs and I estimate about 475 HP (6.7psi of intercooled boost on a GT motor). They have about 3800 lbs and 500 hp, but not a lot of low rpm torque to get off the line. Sounds like a fair fight to me, except of course that the guy that lost could have bought a house for what he paid for his car.
