Default Experiences and Sound Clips of RMB and X-Pipe (w/ or w/out cats)

Hi guys,

If anyone has both the X-pipe and RMB combination on their 32-valve 928s, I'd like to hear their experiences and opinions as far as sound on them. If you have any sound clips, please post! Thanks

I had the Motorsport X and Specialists RMB combo on my S4 without cats and the smaller GT resonators..........too loud.

Started with the RMB with the OEM cats; good sound but my cats were too restrictive and got very hot...........could have been plugged?

Installed the X and the car was very free revving but too loud much above 4k rpm; set off car alarms.

Re-installed the OEM rear muffler; too quiet and ugly.
Swapped that out for a GT rear muffler..........better sound and looks..........quite happy now with the X, GT resonators and GT rear muffler.

Need a stock S4 rear muffler?

There have been several threads on this.

PM "Michaelathome". I believe he has recorded his car, which has the x-pipe + no cats + GT resonators. I can tell you from experience... his car is very, very, loud! If your are three or four car lengths AHEAD of him, with your windows up and your stereo on... you're still going to hear him!

It's not a bad sound.... but it is loud.

BTW, my muffler is now back on. Highway drone was just too much to handle. I'll put it back on for special events, but unless i can come up with some small mufflers, the RMB is relegated to the corner for storage.

I drove my 86.5 for 4 years with a RMB... that's why I won't be putting one on the 87!

They are great the first few thousand times you wind 'er up. But lordy.... on a road trip... the drone just wears on you.

Jerome,

My '88 has stock headers, cats and IIRC GT resonators w/a RMB. IIRC the 87's and 88's have different size resonators and that is what makes the difference. Now weither or not there there is anything left in my cats I couldn't tell you. Couldn't tell you who the supplier of my RMB is either as it was installed by the previous owner and I have no reciept. He is a RL member though so maybe he can post up the manufacturer.

I have thought about getting an Ott-pipe but I am not sure if I will like the sound or not.

Flyingdogs 928 is even louder than mine but IIRC he's got 3" pipes all the way back, not sure of the rest of the set-up.

I'm running 928 Spec X-pipe & cats, stock intermediate mufflers, and a 928 Spec RMB. Sounds fine to me.
