Oil filler seals

Oil filler seals
What is the correct seal between the oil filler neck and the block for my 1987 S4?
The original in my engine was number 928.107.707.03 and is a thin steel plate with a thin rubber strip on both sides and has slots, presumably to prevent oil splashing up from the crankcase when running.
My PET shows part 928.107.307.00 which looks like a moulded rubber ring and was included in my gasket kit. There is no groove in either the block or filler casting to locate this seal.
I have also found part 928.107.707.04 in the big 3 listings which looks like a conventional stamped fibre gasket.
Anyone know which is the best way to go?
Brian.

AFAIK the combo splash guard/filler neck gasket with the cast filler neck was superseded by the plastic filler neck (with groove) and the rubber gasket. I'm sure that there's a thread somewhere on the specifics. Do a search.
If you have the cast filler neck then you cannot use the rubber gasket that came with your kit. I don't know if the 'old' part is NLA or not. But, you can reuse what you have as long as you use some Permatex (or similar) to seal it up.

When I did my '85 I had the same question, I have the cast filler neck, and the solution was to use black silicone RTV on both sides of the baffle. Apparently the original baffle had a screen printed rubber sealing bead on both sides.
