All US 84 cars are the same. There was only one model of 928 offered in the US from 78-89. Not until the GT did US buyers have any options with 928 models. Only the Euro and / or ROW cars had two different engine options from 80-85.

Yup, the S just means its a US after the 82 and before the 85. S or not only matters on a Euro model I think.

I think the '83-'84 US 928s were 234hp.

In 1984 US was 234, Euro S was 310, flywheel rated, rwhp was less.

I agree. The 84 is a nice bump from the 79 if both are in comperable running condition.

As an owner of an 84S 5-speed, I can confirm the horsepower at about 240. I'd run through the gears for sure before opening my wallet. Check for grinding into reverse. Not a major issue, but we've talked about the possibility of needing to replace the intermediate plate in this situation.

That being said, once I get the OB to 3200 rpm, especially in 3rd gear, he wakes up right nice.

Best of luck with your efforts.

That would be the $1000 intermediate plate?

I can't recall the exact price of the intermediate plate. I do remember thinking, when I saw the price, that if it were a plate with food on it, I would be wearing a black tie as I ate it.
