Mine is a tight squeeze as well but does go in. I had to use my spare last summer and for a 1978 original spare, it was in amazingly good shape and saved the day. Going back in after having been inflated to full pressure was interesting. I think I'm going to look into a full size spare for my next long roadtrip. Who still have their original compressors?

I still have the original anemic compressor. Both my OB's had a particle board cover that was concave to allow the rim clearance. When I read the warning on the cover that the spare was NOT for use on rear tires, I pulled them both and fashioned flat covers that fit better. BTW when I tried to use the new/old space saver spare on my 81 931, the tread started separating after a few 50 mph miles.
