Cheapest way is to sell the auto and buy a 5 speed.

Normally those who look at the conversion have already invested quite a bit of time and money in the current car, which they don't want to repeat with a "new" 928. Otherwise selling yours and buying a manual (maybe from Roger before he converts the "wrong way ) would make more sense, as it would save you dozens of hours and probably money as well....

Exactly. If you have a nicely sorted out auto, it may make more sense to convert that known car to a 5 sp, rather then to buy another 928 5 sp where you may run into additional costs getting it all sorted out.

There are lots of factors involved in making the decision.

Good point on the research time. Very important.

I opted not to do it, but I had spent a considerable amount of time researching it as well. I was trying to do my best to avoid any last minute "gotchas", as well as avoiding sourcing incorrect parts, as well as trying to figure in the "while you are in there" parts.

Stan and Brendan were great about working with me on determining exactly what they had for sale, and whether or not it would work in my '85, and whether or not we were missing anything.

And even though I opted not to do it on my '85, I feel it was time well spent and that had I proceeded with the swap, that I was armed with the correct information and that I would have been successful.

But you seem to be able to take apart Porsches like legos, mortals might have a tougher time.
