I can't believe how quiet this car is.
Had a nice ride home from work late last night, averaging around 80 mph for the 40 mile highway piece and I notice no squeaks, no rattles, no buzzing, nothing. just the rumble of the V8, some wind noise and the road. Amazing how tight and well put together this car still stands as it nears its 20th birthday!

Hi Art,
I have the same emotions driving my 27 year old 79 Euro. I think that is one of the best things about the 928. It is simply the best over the road car ever made

I have a squeak, trim around top left of window.
I have a feeling quiet is more the result of squeak patrol and fixing or lubricating as needed. Squeaky cars reflect more on the owner than the car.

I agree Art, the only thing I hear is different levels of exhaust sound or the stereo. Solid as a rock and even in warm weather with the windows down there is no buffeting of me or sound.

That's one of my more favorite items about the 928...the quality build and how tight it is. Going over speed bumps in parking lots I'd hear no rattles, clunks or expect to hear anything other than a V8 rumble.

Mine is actually pretty noisey inside. I added some acoustic foam under the carpet in the rear hatch and it helped a lot . There's one squeak from the sunroof that I can't seem to find a permanent solution for. It's the sunroof rubbing against the inner seal.

You know, there must be something about growing older. When I was young, I loved a loud V8 rumbling at max RPMs. Now days I much prefer a quiet rumble.

Me too. When I got my first P car, a 356 B coupe and was in undergraduate school, I ran with a straight stinger out the back on an extractor exhaust. Couldn't figure out why some people objected to the sound. Now I love the quiet sound of the 928 and listen to the intake noise above 3000 rpm and love that. And I can carry on a conversation with a passenger too. Guess I'm approaching adulthood.

I find my GTS to be noisy compared to modern cars like my S8, but I guess that's to be expected due to the age of the design. I notice wind noise and tire/road noise most. Squeaks and rattles happen to all cars eventually as they age, but most of those can be taken care of easily.
Even my S8 is noisy compared to many other cars from Lexus, Lincoln, Cadillac, MB, etc...
I rented a Buick recently that hovered along on the highway so quietly it was ghostly. Of course the floating sensation during lane changes was ghastly!

I have a different view of the situation. What I can hear, the police can hear. I don't need to draw a disproportionate amount of attention to my 928, particularly not around jealous or hungry bears. There is enough of that generated by the car itself. Having been stopped many times for the offense of "driving a Porsche", intensifying the sound and color of the matter are not in my best interest. Think how elated a hungry bear is when he/she is disturbed by a loud tuned exhaust. Feeding frenzy time.
