looks nice, I'd be interested in seeing it a year from now
if he filled the crack with standard fg filler it's gonna recrack in no time as the filler doesn't like heat much... and we all know how hot that dash/pod get when sitting outside
I personally use a combo fg and kevlar for better strength and protection from the heat

That is the million dollar question... how long will it last? We'll see. I'm staying realistic, and if it re-cracks soon that's ok. At least it looked good for a bit, but we'll have to move to plan B of leather recovering. I will definitely be diligent with using a sun shade, and keeping the car covered. If/when it re-cracks, I'll post that too.

Standard body filler can tolerate heat just fine. Misuse of body filler is what causes it to fail. I will also say that using body filler in the dash would qualify as misuse. There are special fillers made for dashboard cracks and I'm sure they can be found on the eastwood website. 3M also has a line of plastic repair products that are epoxy based. I've used them and they are quite nice.

Most of the people doing such repair work are doing it for dealers who plan to sell the car and sell it SOON ! It tends to be more of a patch than a fix. Good enough to get the car off the lot and who cares if it cracks in 6 months by then someone else owns it. Besides even if the original cracks were actually restored the pod is going to split elsewhere it is just a matter of time. That said your guy did a nice job filling and painting certainly well worth the money.

I came across a website and a guy that did repairs on pods....it was relatively inexpensive (250) or something there abouts with a core charge when you sent him back the old one....

they basically, grind out the crack to solid material I think and then do the repair. the vinyl goes on and then is vacuum drawn to see it. The process is done on a lot of other cars parts and I don't think is unique to ours, I'll see if I can find a thread in my past "favorites" but it was a while ago...

I think I typed in something like "928 pod repair rebuild" or something when I originally found him. The unit I have from him is as nice as I've seen for the price, but it still sits onthe shelf as I am now thinking about leather.....

ahhh the options....

Scott, it turned out pretty good. How long did it take for him to do the repairs? I will have him work on the white shark first and than do the SC. Email me his contact.

Are you going to the GTG in Atl next Saturday? I may not make it, I have an appointment to remove my wisdom teeth that Friday.

You know, you could reschedule that dentist appointment.

I've been meaning to email you Gio. He did everything over 3 days, and a good 8 hours from start to finish. The interior is simply fantastic now. I'll go to the GTG in Atl. if you go. If they're cutting your wisdom teeth out you may not be up to it though. If they're just pulling them out (I had that done) it's no big deal and you'd be fine. Enough OT... I'll email you.

Got the email. The consultation is this Friday. They may remove them or may reschedule for next Friday to remove them. I will let you know.
