1986.5 are they a model car to buy
I am interested in 1986.5 A/T black on black that has 90,000 miles one owner. This car was one of the 200 special order from porsche high hp stock dyno 320 rwhp.I have seen the dyno sheets I have never heard of these cars, He says he was one of the few who were at the porsche test groups in 1986 and special ordered the car from germany. Is this possible ?

Start with the easy to check stuff, VIN and option codes, carfax, run down the road with a stop watch.
What Dyno sheet, almost all dyno's are uncalibrated devices suitable ONLY for tuning and looking at HP changes, not absolute amounts.

Regardless of claimed HP, yes they are the ones to buy. The autos are nice since they give you first gear launches vs. the S4 that launches in second gear.
HP wise a stock well running '86.5 auto will put down around 250-260 rwhp.

Good solid motors. Nice top end with a chip. The 87 and newer cars have a diverter in the manifold, and the so called flappy valve to increase low end torque. This is why you will see two HP peaks on a flappy valve cars dyno sheet. I think Mark Kibort has one posted on a recent thread. Since we are on the topic of weak spots, 5.0 engines do not like to be revved past redline, and have been known to eat con rod bearings due to ensuing oil starvation. The other known weak spots are pre 85 tranny syncros and timing belt failure on interference engines, the euros and the 32 valve engines being interference models. Other weak spots would be vaccume leaks and faulty grounds, but these would be normal occurances on older cars in general.
A well serviced 928 is a solid runner, with good AC and all the modern amenities. They are a performance bargain for the mechanically inclined, and have vast reserves of power and handling.

Oh yes, the dual cam heads have a timing chain connecting the dual cams. Chain followers need to be replaced at around 100K or bad things can happen. This is also a service item. PM services will get you to far beyond 200K with these engines. These cars are exotic supercars, and were among the most advanced cars in the world when thay were built. Treat them as such, and thay will reward you with supercar performance. Ignore routine services at your own risk.

I love my '86.5 meteormetallic 928. I want another one, or maybe two. The only thing I don't like about it are the manhole covers and relatively skinny rear tires which seem to define speed limits achieveable in corners. Next will come some cup wheels to remedy that. And I LOVE that it starts in 1st, and chirps the tires in second.

I got the feeling it was more like, there is nothing "wrong" with your aunt, but everybody in the family knows she talks to her cats.
The more I learn the more it appears each car needs to be judged on its condition, and less but not ignoring model year preferences and values.
Where did the 300 lbs come from between the S2 and S4?

I bought my 86.5 in 1989. I had been working at Holbert's Porsche for several years. I had my choice of two. A black on black 86.5 or a champagne colored S4. The concensus from Holbert Racing was to buy the 86.5. Several hundred pounds lighter, (despite what the spec book said) S4 brakes & running gear. Minor differences. Main difference was body styling. Mr. Holbert (Robert) advised the 86.5. That's what I bought. I've been happy with it.
