Default Anybody know where I can get a speedometer needle?

Maybe someone has an extra one lying around they would sell? Or does anyone know where I can buy one? I called a couple of speedo shops but no luck.

Thanks,

Alan

No the PO actually broke the needle in half and somehow glued it back together. But the needle is not straight and it drives me nuts. I figure there must be some sitting around off old broken speedometers. I'll live with it or try to straighten it before I buy the whole unit. I imagine they are expensive.

They are not that expensive. I boght an entire replacement speedo from a local wrecker for $75.

I just started parting out my project car and the speedometer is in really nice shape. If you are interested just send me a PM.

Removing a used needle is fraught with potential frustration. You must be able to buy a new one from the dealer. They are fragile, they are sensitive to weight also. I have a friend who glued his and the weight of the glue causes it to read 10mph lower than actual. If you have the *****, any 944 needle works.

But be very careful case the needle shaft can snap in an instant.

Try North Hollywood Speedometer out of LA. They might be able to help you out.

Thanks guys - I'll make a few phone calls to Hollywood Speedometer and the dealer. Strange but I never even think about trying the Porsche dealer for parts. If not I'll buy the whole unit eventually. Good to know that a 944 needle works too.

I'll let you guys know if I can find a place that sells the needles.

I'd be interested in purchasing just a needle too, so if you get any details please post them here!

I broke my needle in replacing the odometer gear - it came off OK but I couldn't seem to get it back on properly...now it just sits on 0 as I drive....

Hot tip:
An ordinary kitchen fork makes an excellent tool for prying off a speedo needle.. First place a sheet of paper or thin card on the face of the speedo to avoid damaging it.

Ok I called 3 speedometer shops and Champion Porsche - nobody wants to sell just the needle. I'll keep looking and let you guys know if I find some.

Colin that is a good tip, I'll try it next time.

Thanks everybody,

Alan
