FS: 1987 928 S4 90K+ miles blue/black with 5 speed (project)

The prior owner converted this from an automatic to 5 speed using an '88 S4 transmission.
I have been driving this car as an alternate daily driver and it runs ok (not great).
The prior owner speculated that a head was cracked as he found coolant around a spark plug. He had bought replacement heads, but then started a business and didn't have time to follow through.
I changed the spark plugs and found what appeared to be blue RTV on one. I am not sure what was going on there, but the car runs much better now, although it stumbles abit off the line. I haven't change caps or rotors yet, nor have I rechecked the spark plugs.
The car is due for timing belt maintence, but since I presume the heads need to be pulled, and I have a spare pair, I have been driving it.
The car generally runs well, brakes well, shifts well, handles well. No obvious flaws in it's performance.
The rear seats are out (in a box) and the rear interior quarter panels need some work. The front seats were recovered in fabric.
This would make a good daily driver for someone, with the understanding that the mechanicals need to be dealt with.

Hi Curt,
I was planning to race in '06.... Yes, I am planning to race in '07, but with what car and what venue is still up in the air. I could be done developing my current car, or still developing it. Or I could be racing my M3 or maybe another 928. I would definitely like to race next year, keep your fingers crossed for me.

Hi Matt,
I don't know the history of the interior, sorry. The door panels are the older type, but look to be leather to me. I believe the rear quarters are the same. So my speculation would be someone chose to upgrade to leather, but that is only a guess.
I like the door panels, so would be willing to switch them into my '89 if that was an issue to someone.

Will the reserve be 7.5?
I don't have the time, or space this winter, however I am quite curious as to what it goes for because I will be looking for a 5-spd car for stick conversion in the spring. I have to wait until the snow melts to do the swap. Then sell the remains to a dismantler.
Could you please keep us apprised of what happens with this car?

I will definitely post back to this thread when the future of this car is determined.
You can pay me now, and I will be happy to let it sit under a cover in my yard till spring.... Actually, I would even buy one of those portable garages and it could sit in there

Well Stan, to be honest I was hoping I could come across a hit, or engine fire 86+ 5-spd car. If you find one, they go for under 3K.
The problem is finding that illusive 5-spd!
I have come across no less then 4 very nice examples of “sick shark” in the past months (2 lower blocks, one small fire, and one possible T-belt), but every one has been an auto.
If I can’t find that damaged 5-spd by the spring, I will have to start looking at solid cars for the swap.
BTW, I think your 87 looks like a nice car to wrench-up. Each of the 2 928’s I’ve had, have started much worse. A shame to part it, it would be a great foundation. And, as we all know, blue sharks are faster, and are more appealing to the ladies
