Whats the old expression, I was never much of a mechanic until I owned a British car?

I suspect the real reason Arianespace used a VW windshield wiper motor for the fuel valve on their rockets is that the Porsche wiper motor was too expensive.

Reading the oil pan, rear main seal, etc. repair stories makes me think plenty of jobs on the 928 are a unique chore beyond other automobiles, time will tell.

I have many days (like 2 months) of packing things up and making a parking spot in my stacked to the brim with my old hobbies garage, but I am looking forward to finding out first hand.

Just a general observation - when ever I go back to the UK my friends have not changed there size and type of car they own. For instance if they had a Range Rover 10 years ago when I left the UK they still have that size or type of car in the garage today.

Cost of living and taxes are much higher in the UK and salaries when compared to the equivalent job in the USA are much lower (as much as 50%). I often wonder how I ever managed back in the UK. Gas prices do effect the choice of vehicle I am sure, however not among my circle of middle-class friends.

Whereas the Volvo T5 estate car is in the garage they have a new diesel Yaris for every day runaround use. The Volvo comes out at the weekend.
So the Brits have tailored there vehicle needs accordingly. Still want the large or high powered car but restrict its use to pleasure and use the economy car for business and general use.

The cars in Europe are much cleaner and far more efficient than the cars here in the States.
I drove a diesel Toyota Yaris at 100mph on the motorway and returned over 50mpg on a 500 mile round trip. 60++ mpg is common place in the UK why not the States? Go to a Toyota garage in DFW and ask to see a Yaris that can do that and they only have a version that can do 40mpg tops.

Two weeks ago when in the UK for a week I saw four 928's which is way more than I would see traveling around Texas.

Having worked with Arianespace for many years that brought back many memories.

I remember being in a high end hifi shop in London maybe 15 years ago, pricey top of the line stuff, and I would say a good half of the people there didn't drive. Bits and pieces of UK life may not look very appealing from an American standpoint, but looking at the whole package other factors make the quality of life much more comparable. UK also seems a dandy place if you are filthy rich, Joan Collins according to our tour bus driver leases a place that cost a 1 million pounds a year, per room.
