I found my 944S2 with 968 M030 suspension and Toyo RA-1's to be a superior handling car on street and track. Doesn't do all so well for autocross but still fun and a heck of a lot better than the GTS. Very neutral handling car.
A nicely moded 951 can be a very fast car in both handling and acceleration. Ideally a turbo 968 would be a great toy.

I have found the key to successful AXing in a 951 to be actually turning DOWN the boost a bit! (assuming you have a boost controller

968 Turbo - YOWZA! But then - they were not 'officially' imported to the US...and I think less then 25 were made! (not sure of the actual # - but VERY few)
A local 944er transplanted a 968 powerplant into his 944..THAT would be an AX monster! Not sure how it would be classed, tho...

We have a local autocrosser that took a 924S and dropped a 968 engine in it. He has it producing close to 300hp and it is quite a monster. He usually comes close to FTD running against some heavily modified 996TT's and GT3's. One of the people he competes against just took first in catagory at the SCCA nationals in Kentucky. Power to weight says it all. BTW he falls right into Modified class where anything goes.
