Am I losing freon again???
Just had the AC recharged before Sharktoberfest, with leak stop - and the AC has worked ever since. However, when I turn off the engine, I can hear a hissing sound for a little while. Now I'm wondering, if that's freon leaking out again, or if I have a small vacuum leak or something. Any thoughts?

If the system is still working properly, it could just be the pressure equalizing after shutdown. An audible refrigerant leak would empty the system quickly.

A little noise after shutdown is not that unusual, especially for older cars with older systems. Pressure equalization, made a skosh more audible by an aging expansion valve.
That being said, a leaky diaphragm is far more likely to be heard than a refrigerant leak.
As Zeus pointed out, if you can hear the freon escaping - your system will be empty in a matter of minutes, if not seconds.

Check with the AC tech, to see if they added the flourescent dye. If so, you can check the system with a black light to see if there is any leaks. Apparently the system is efficient enough the still blow cold with some leakage. My winter project is a compressor replacement because I've confirmed my leakage to the compressor. Ed M

Take a look at the drier while the system is running.....through the little glass window. If it is mostly clear than your fine...if it has lots of bubbles....then your freon is low?

It's R12, but I'd love to do the conversion. It just does not make sense to fix so many things that are not broken... I guess I'd have to replace compressor and all kinds of seals along the way, which would be very time consuming and expensive.
