Randy: I know our sponsors pay for the priviledge of hawking their wares here, but does that sponsorship mean that paying members are forbidden to learn (from other paying members) of competiting (and vastly less expensive) products/services if the sponsors objects? If we're not allowed to know about a $5 widget because a sponsor wants to sell it for $50, then Rennlist has taken a bad turn. Is it because some sponsors are afraid people will find out how much their markup is?

Reread my post, Dave. Seems I was pretty clear about this going forward.

Randy I did read it. My concern is the appropriateness of you removing a post and/or thread that otherwise complies with John D.'s stated rules simply because a sponsor requests it. Your course of action (and I admit this depends on how you actually handle the sponsor's objection) implies that if John Speake objects in this thread, it could be wiped out, and not even paying members would know that a less-expensive alternative might (and I say "might" since this thread is essentially an inquiry as to the quality of this alternative) exist.

OK, I see yer point.

I can't give you a blanket statement. We'll just have to handle 'em on a case-by-case basis unless it becomes so problematic that we have to establish formal guidelines.

That's the best I can offer at this point. Hopefully over time it becomes a non-issue in the greater scheme of things.

I'm all for open commerce and expression of opinion.

So to take this discussion to an absurd level
Porsche themselves are not a sponsor so a thread could potentially be deleted where somebody suggest we buy parts from Porsche direct and a "sponsor" objects?

I know of these people. The last I heard was that they wanted to sell through agents, rather than be bothered with direct to end customer sales.......

I'm still waiting to hear of experiences from others that have used this company, so far i think there has only been one and that was second hand knowledge.

I have been hesitant to replace my MAF for the previous price of $400 but i can definately bite at $150. That platinum wire isnt that expensive.

Actually I think i have the 911 Porsche World magazine article where this was first discovered. If anyone would like i can scan it and post it somewhere. I think the article came out in 2003 or there abouts, regardless i know i have it.

Ryan, it is a little more than just a platinum wire.

I must confess, I kind of feel similar to Ryan. I'd love to have the 320UKP to give John - he did a great and fast job on my LH brain, and has been helpful both over the phone and on email. I just don't have 320 pounds ($500?) spare.

Now, 150UKP (never mind $150) I could probably find. But I'm sure John has plenty of work and can wait for me

Just to clarify on the referenced previous thread that I had closed down - I received no Sponsor complaints about it that resulted in my action. It was a judgement call by me alone.

I just bought a Rebuilt MAF ($350 + $100 core) from 928 Intl and I believe they are supplied by John Speake. I ordered the part at 3:00pm and the order was shipped the same day ($16.00 2 day UPS Air).

If they put the rebuilt in a Porsche box they could easily sell it as a new part because it looks brand new.

How long is the turn around at $150? 7-10 days plus shipping time?

Does it have a warrantee? (Does 928 Intl? Forgot to ask)

I wish I knew the answers to your question. That's why this thread exists.
