Do I have the wrong fuel pump installed on 88 S4 Euro?
Hi guys,
I have a 88 S4 Euro (can confirm this from VIN #) that I replaced the fuel pump on. I replaced the old one as it was starting to leak around the seams. I noticed recently that my S4 has an in tank fuel pump, and I can confirm this as I see 2 wires attached to the fuel tank outlet.
I replaced the old pump with one listed for 87~88 928's, but I now realize that these models did not come with the in tank fuel pump in North America, just the strainer!
Does this mean I have the wrong pump installed? Should I have installed an 89~95 fuel pump designated to work with an in tank fuel pump?
If so, does it really matter if I have the wrong fuel pump? anyone know pressure ratings?
If it does matter, rather than replace exterior fuel pump, can I replace the intank pump with a strainer? I'd rather worry about one fuel pump malfunctioning than two, and it's cheaper than buying another exterior pump.
Or to do this, do I need a whole new MAF, LH set up?
Any info, past experience would help.
Thanks!!
Ken

Ken,
There is no problem. The PET catalog shows just one external pump model for all '88 928s. The in-tank pump (option 460) has only a special hose and clamp associated besides the pump itself.
No worries.
