Not bad deal but it's certainly not the deal of the century. That belongs to the guy on this board who bought a running/driving 928 for $300 !

He had the same car on the Autotrader, I believe. There were some pics, or at least one, and it looked to be in good shape. No more detail in that ad, either, though.

Is that always a deal killer?
My dream car is an 89 5 spd totalled by a tree branch landing on the sunroof.

I'd say the more general comment is that anything that has run a full cycle on ebay, autotrader, etc. and not sold, isn't going to be a bargain, unless the seller hits a wall and REALLY needs to sell at a much more flexible price.

I've owned wonderful cars with salvage titles. It's nothing to me.

Salvage = It could have been stolen also.

In agreement with Heinrich, sometimes they are wonderful cars, but with a bad tick mark.

Salvage title is going to stick with the car though. I am looking at a similar but much milder undocumented odometer replacement, to me its a almost new speedo, but to the DMV and if I ever sell it, its mileage unknown odometer tampering. DMV shows 230k (which I am certain is the 100k problem), and the new odometer shows 14k. It won't change my ownership experience a bit, but selling it could be very painful if the next buyer isn't very understanding AND trusting.

Assuming the reason for the salvage title is both known and fully corrected, what sort of hit does it make the to market price on a 87?

Or this odometer problem on the 83 I am looking at?

My thinking is that it "might" not effect the price at all, but like almost all deviations from factory it reduces the size of the pool of potential buyers, so it might take MUCH longer to sell at other than a substantial discount.

Salvage titles are tricky depending on the information that goes with them. Odometer issues on cars this old are generally not uncommon and shouldn't impact a transaction much, given that all of the parties understand that the milage isn't nearly as important as the maintenance history.

Those who know 928s will understand the TMU element. I'm guessing that a large majority of the 928s are actually TMU. The odometer gears had flaws from the factory and just about every 928 with a mechanical odometer had the gear replaced at least once.

$12,300 dosent sound like the deal of the century to me. For a salvage title i think thats optimistic on the sellers part if anything.
