Default Fan Controller question

About four month ago my passenger coolant fan stopped working. It turned out to be the controller and I got a new one. Now the passenger fan stopped again and I tested the fan itself it works. I don't have another working module to test, but it seems that it is broken again.
Can something be wrong with my fan that it causes the controller to burn out?

The brushes on fan motor may be going out? Mine stopped working unless I gave it a push. Iit would engage for a few minutes and quit again. Dremel, new brushes (you may need to sand then to the correct size), soldering and jb weld to seal the motor worked!

I"ve used a Flex-a-lite fan controller (<$30)to hardwire & control electric fans before on a 928: works great, has a dial so you can simply turn the dial to set your temperature. Best done when the engine is warming up: turn the dual from full hot down until it jimmy's.
