This time on a friend's S2. His housemate told him he was leaving a trail of fuel behind the car, and when he returned and parked he found fuel dripping from the rear of the engine!!!
We found the culprit after jumping the fuel pump relay. It was one of the short rubber hoses connecting the fuel injectors to the fuel rail. You can just see the evidence around the electrical connector in this pic.
I think this was very close to being an engine fire.

That was the intention. Joel ordered a repair kit from Porsche as he needed the car ready within a few days for a track day. The repair kit had one hose and cost approx $25, he decided not to spend the equivalent of $200 on the full set. He does intend to replace them all and will order a set from one of the Big3 soon.

$25!!!!! for that.
There was a recent thread re. the 'U' fuel hose being unavailable which generated much discussion of EFI hose and clamps...............take a look.
Also, Carl at Motorsposts sells EFI hose $14.95/metre..............surly there's a more economic solution.

That is the same kind of set up the old Jag V-12 had and there have been MANY of them burn to the ground.
Any fuel leak there will pool up in the V of the block and you are just Waiting to see the flames.
No way I would just replace one of these hoses.

Ya know guys, I just did this exact repair two weeks ago. and bought a really nice kit from 928 Int'l for about 30 bucks that had hose and clamps for all 8 injectors. I see in the photo that the “hose collars” are still attached to the hoses at each end.
Essentially, it really is worth the time to replace all the hoses on the rail because every one of them will crack and leak eventually. It's just a matter of time. This job is tedious since getting the old hose off and cutting the collars takes all damb day, but it it so satisfying when it starts up with no gas smell. - Ruf
