Variable Muffler Option
Has anyone ever thought about or successfully instead a variable muffler option?
When my neighbor upgraded his boat engine and exhaust system, he lost the ability to divert his exhaust. He used to have the choice between straight through the transom or under water through the out drive.
Since it was wicked loud, even at idle, he needed a different option and found system that would switch back and forth via a solenoid from essentially a straight pipe system to a baffled system; both heading straight through the transom. Now you can have a normal conversation at idle and all the performance when running hard.
With all the talk about Ketchmi’s X pipes with or without cats and with or without a RMB, I thought it might be cool to have the best of both worlds at the flip of a switch. Civilized when puttering around and all the Brrraaaahhhh you want on command. Just a thought…

If you are looking for an electronically modulated exhaust cutout, they've been on the market for several years.
Small motor opens them to whatever % you want. Sorry, I have forgotten the company name, they got their promo materials f'd up at the last show I saw them at, so I can't look it up readily. They were about $90 per, so retail maybe $125.
Setting it up with a controller based on either MAP or TPS would be simple.

Carl from 928 Motorsports sells them check his site, 928motorsports.com
edit: the exhaust cut outs, not the variable mufflers.

THere a couple different manufacturers of the electronic valves. The difficulties include getting a good seal when closed (over time, in street use), longevity and others. Can be used though. My vR4 had a selectable sport/tour exhaust and it was fun...nice gimmick when switched manually but it also had an rpm triggerred automatic function, could rig an electronic cutout to an rpm switch, I guess...too much work for me!
