I'm pretty sure all the radiators were the same, the difference being the number of auxiliary coolers [heat exchangers] in the end tanks. Some had no coolers, some had one, and some had two.

The earlier radiators tubes were painted black, while the later stuff was left shiny silver. I'm not sure why, or if it even matters. All were made by a company called Behr.

My '85 was built with one cooler [for the oil]; I couldn't find a single-cooler radiator, so I just mounted a '90 non-cooler radiator and an aftermarket "oil-to-air" oil cooler down in the grill area. Works fine.

N!

I've got one out of my 78 auto. Has a hairline crack on the top passenger side of the plastic mounting area. Seeps coolant and epoxy never did hold long. It is the original rad with all the gold tags still intact. Before I discovered it could be repaired professionally, I simply replaced it. Otherwise, that rad is in pretty good shape. Interested? Let me know.

The S4 radiators are a bit different due to the addition of the dual cooling fan shroud that has tabs that secure to the bottom of the radiator.

Correct the early radiator has large plastic tabs on the side tanks to hold the shroud. The late style has slots cut into the aluminum flange along the bottom on the core to mount the S-4 fan schroud so they are different. Our all aluminum radiator is made to fit both $895 new and offers improved cooling capacity.
