ahh TBF is thrust bearing, I was thinking Timing belt, and was questioning those that said just re use the heads.
Try to get a short block, but you will be in more then just the $2,000 as mentioned, you will need to pull the engine, no doubt doing a bunch of WYAIT stuff and still have to get the heads and such swapped and then reinstalled, I imagine no matter which way you go your probably looking at $5,000 if your not a DIYer
Good luck

The problem is not wether i am or not DYEer, but that i don't have a garage or even a place where to work on the car.
Otherwise, i would have already taken the engine out and back in....

Pablo;
The good news is you have options, the bad news is you will have to spend a little bit to achieve them.
One such option:
I have a 78k mile 87 motor for sale cheaply. The mount for the altenator is broken, but easily fixable ( I have the loose part). Engine ran great before I pulled the motor. If you have any interest email me.

Sorry to hear of your TBF problem. You'll receive a lot of support here if you decide to replace the engine.
I recommend you try to find a good inexpensive shortblock or whole engine, then negotiate with Greg at Precision the cost to install it.

I am terribly sorry to hear about the TBF. Wouldn't it make more economic sense to purchase and install a used engine and sell the car in good, running condition, rather than selling it non-running? From my observation, non-running vehicles have extremely low value to the buyers, because they never know whether everything else works.

928 Int'l is right around the corner... they just stumbled across a Transaxle they didn't know they had, maybe you could swing by and see if theres a shortblock in the same pile of stuff they haven't discovered yet...
Either way, you should give them a call.

My condolences Pablo, sounds like a real sweet ride!
This TBF issue is a new one to me, especially the destroying an engine bit...so just wondering is this an issue only afflicting Auto trans models??
I have a manual but am kind of concerned given that I thought I could hear the start of a whining thrust bearing this morning on the way to work...
Thanks
Ben

Ben: It only affects automatics. There is a LOT here in the archives on this problem, the cause, effect and the cure, but you don't have to worry about it.
Paranoia may be the source of the whine you are now hearing. Just kidding, do the Euros have air pump? My pump was silent but didn't rotate freely. Now I have a whine I could do without.

Thanks guys for all your toughts, i am settling down at this moment. Tomorrow i'll go to Greg's and start the negotiations (maybe he needs a nice web site or a network i can trade for his job ).
I'll answer to those who had pm'd me tomorrow; i need to see the costs and what is best to do.
Thanks
