Default 3spd Automatic Trans Fluid question

I've got an '80 928 (US) with the 3 speed auto box. The transmission shifts fine without any problems but is in a high mileage car @ 172k. I am about to do a filter/fluid change and was wondering what type/brand of transmission fluid do you all recomment?
Thank you much,

Ended up using Redline D4 ATF synthetic with very good results. Much quicker shifting with less noise from the transmission. (The old fluid was Valvoline Mercon/Dexron II with about 10k miles of use.)

Redline make a good product for auto's and manuals. The fluid in your auto is dexron II/III, which is the most common fluid for automatic transmissions built in the 1980's, and thats not unique to Porsche. There are some pretty good synthetics available from Castrol and Mobil 1 as well that might be worth a look. The synthetic's can take alot more punishment than a standard dex but some owner's report more leaks with their use on older vehicles. Personally though I'd use a synthetic if my porsche was an auto.
