Fan Scraping Issue?

Fan Scraping Issue?
I was pulling into a girls driveway last night and thought I had more than enough clearance to make it... turns out the way the lip into her driveway is that the fron spoiler scraped a bit. As soon as it scrapped I started hearing a sound like the engine's fan was hitting the radiator or the radiator cover... I backed out.. thinking I pushed it into it.. maybe it will pull it out.. I didn't... so when we got back into the car to head out.. I turned the key.. back it out and was going to take the short drive home and swap cars... as soon as I got not 100ft. away.. the noise just stopped... I Haven't heard it since.. being it ws night time I had no way of looking under the hood but minded the temp etc while we were out.. and today it is like a Monsoon has come through so I won't be ablet o look to make sure the fan is spinning and the tranny cooler fan is running but I was wondering if anyone had similar thing happen?

Maybe the fan in front of the condenser got bumped. This fan would operate in defrost or in a/c mode. You can easily check this fan by looking through the lower center grille below the bumper, and using your hand (with the car OFF) spin the fan it should turn freely.
Good luck

I like the way you think Randy... :-) She was great.. going back out tonight but seeing as the weather is so crappy I can't open the Sunroof I think I am going to take the X.. just need to get the Porsche parts out of the back and leave the tail-gate open for a few hours to get the Fuel smell out as best as possible...
If the rain will let up for 10min I'm gunna go out and pop the hood open and take a look at the fan shrowds to see if maybe one of them is loose or missing a fastener. After looking at the funding situation I hope it isn't anything big, because I would really like to get some seals for the sunroof and replace the cracked and worn rubber thats up there now... thank god the rain isn't too terribly heavy and constant...

HA!.. Solved... It wasn't the fan at all there was an air intake hose.. for what I have no idea.. I am still digging through the Service manuals to figure out why it is there. But it was hitting the water pump blades... SO.. removed this seeming useless hose... and BINGO no more grinding... Now all i need to do is figure out what this Driver side hose goes to.. it looks like a brake cooling line but that would mean it would actually need to go somewhere near the brakes... but alas... no more grinding.. no more having to take the X out on the town at night... even though I still love it

On a serious note, I'd suggest checking out your motor mounts. The fan hitting the shroud suggests the mounts have collapsed to the point that the fan will hit the lower edge of the shroud.

Thats the thing... the fan wasn't hitting the shroud at all.. there is TONS of clearance... Since the rain let up for a few hours this morning it afforded me the chance to look at what was going on... it was some air tube that was placed... from best I can tell wasn't supposed to be anywhere near where I found it. I did notice that the front plate under the spoiler seems to be missing a bolt or two... so it looks like I need to get a set of floor jacks to put it back up... unless I can convince woman #2 to climb under there and check it out...
