when i got her
she used to start right up
... now she starts right up
dies
and then i have to crank again and she starts then
not bad you say?
i know but i get the weird feeling this could be some concern soon
any cluuuues?
my 86 does the same off and on. Usually fires up the first time. But occassionally it will go into a funk that fires up,instantly dies. Then catches on a subsequent crank.
I have replaced everything except coils, FPR and temp II sensor,
The car goes into the P-car shop this thurs. for fuel pressure gauge, rising rate adjustable fuel pressure regulator and new coil install.
Will let you know how it works out.
she's a 1983 us model.i'll have a loot at it tomorrow ,neil

Rich
cool rich i can't wait to hear from you.
and good luck with your lil situation.
cheers
michael
when i start the car she fires right up
i get the feeling she doesnt get enough fuel and dies then.
then with the second crank she will run as if the more in pressue on the line gets more fuel supplied.
but i could be wrong
i was also wondering whether lucas oil might be doing it. i used quite a bit in the gas
the news is the same. The coils were installed and did not solve the engine drop out @idle.
The new AFPR does not hold pressure once the engine is shut off hence the car is reluctant to re-start with no fuel prsssure.
The old regulator was around 30 psi at idle. So I suspect the pressure was not enough.
I will raise the pressure this weekend to 40 psi per Dave Roberts @928 Specialist.
Will let you know if that solves the proble.
If this only occurs when the engine is cold, try adding techron to the tank.
Or cold start valve. Still sounds like the fuel lines are leaking down ( maybe a leaky injector also) and you need to get a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel line and watch to see what the pressure does.
Do a search, many threads on leaky injectors, bad cold start valves, and the fuel check valve which keeps gas in the lines when the engine is off. If its leaking back, the fuel runs back to the tank, and the symptoms can be as you describe.

i add lucas oil for injectors and this week sea foam to the gas
which is always mobil's premium

hi neil, wat's up?
i have the feeling my problem and RDS928S may be is what you describe
i hope my intake won't take off one day igniting, the way i read a few threads here
i changed my plugs this weekend
great first start improvement
then i cleaned the Air flow sensor with carburator cleaner a bit (RDS928S maybe that'll help you ,too)
much better now... but i want to soak in something and get it cleaner inside
any ideas?
Well it's been a solid week now of perfect first starts..
After replacing the fuel pressure regulator with the adjustable unit from 928 Specialist the car is unreal. Much more power from a dead stop in the drive position. FP was adjusted to 40 PSI @ idle. I believe my old FPR was not providing suffecient pressure.
When installing the AFPR we noticed the crank sensor plastic clip had broken and was loose!!.
That definetly caused the hard start problem with prolonged cranking.

cool news RDS...
i'll check out all the stuff you said
mine cranks straight up now and then boggs down a little to come back up
i guess it needs a lil tweeking
does anyone know what i can dip the air flow sensor in , without killing the sealed parts?
