My light turned green…
My light turned green…
I’ve had my 928 for a few years now and the drive indicator light never worked. I remember the PO saying, ”if the engine is running and nothing is lit up, you are in drive.” Today for no apparent reason it just started working again and it’s green. I couldn’t believe my luck so I’d thought I try my cruise control while I was at it. Low and behold it is working now too.
These are my favorite kinds of repairs, the one you wait around long enough and the miraculously repair themselves. Kind of reminds me of my laundry in college, if you leave in the basket long enough between trips home, they miraculously become clean.
Who’s been over working on my car while I was sleeping? Did you adjust the flex plate while you were in there and why didn’t you fix my door handle? I guess you were saving some of the fun for me…

My tach wasn't working so I had it fixed. It worked for about a month, then stopped again. Hell if I was going to have it pulled and fixed again so I left it alone. A few weeks later it started working again and has been for the past 4 years.
I also waited a few years for the motor mounts, steering rack, and oil pan gasket but didn't seem to fix themselves...

In the 2 years I had my car in Saudi, the speedo would never work for first 10mins after starting. Mmm, needs to warm up maybe.

Probably a fly.
My list of self-fixing problems is not short either:
-Courtesy lights.
-Dash backlight.
-Seat memory.
-Hard shifts.
-Noisy Friction in the steering column.
-Driver's door lock sticky.
-ABS (PO replaced the relay, no luck. I replaced the replaced relay and voilŕ)
These machines really love running daily.

Extra, Extra… lights mysteriously illuminating in 928. Today when I put my car in drive not only did the green drive indicator light up, but so did the R. The extra R light only comes on while in Drive, all other positions work correctly. Then I determined it is related to the lights. This extra light (which is only partially lit up) goes away when the lights are turned off.
I’m guessing it’s somehow related to the dash lights and a short or faulty connection or ground. One of my winter projects is to replace the cracked pod, update the instrument lights to LEDs, fix the dimmer switch, hard wire my V1 and clean up all the contacts.

I can't stand stuff that doesn't work, it just nags at me till I fix it. So guess what happened when I first got my 928...it wasn't long before buggy switches were getting swapped out, electrical connectors getting sanded and sprayed with stabilant, ground points cleaned and reattached, and so on. It cost some bucks but to me the reliability of the cars electrical accessories makes it worth it. Some of the ways the germans do things leaves me scratching my head sometimes, for example the central locking system...an electric motor used as a rotating switch. It took quite a while setting those up after replacing them. They work good now but it took a while. Most of it's just time-consuming but its worth it to fire up the beast and see the tach working properly, a voltmeter thats accurate, a fuel gauge thats not bouncing from every bump in the road, a speedo that works, a sunroof that closes when I want it to close, mirrors that adjust ALL the time an not just on sundays and holidays...
