Default Off season tyres

Not looking for a long discussion re. what's best but rather what is most suitable for running the car in spring and fall temperatures where the high performance summer tyres are getting below there ideal operating temp.

I have no intention of driving in winter (not that you could anyway -30C and feet of snow) but would like to extend the season on tyres that can handle before and after.

All-Season tires (M+S rated) are the next level 'down' from Summer tires. The compounds used have much lower glass transition temperatures than the pure-summer tires. But, the tread patterns used are not 'snow tire' patterns and aren't as noisy etc.

If you are contemplating putting A-S tires on your original 16" wheels you may find that you are SOL. I haven't been able to find any A-S tires in the correct sizes. I'm running A-S tires one aspect ratio too high: 225/55-16 and 245/50-16.

The newer A-S tires are good enough now that I may just get A-S 17-inchers next time around and run them all the time on my summer wheels. (Different wheels and tires for track days though.)

I just invested in a set of Kumho ECSTA ASX 225/50-R16 93W high performance all seasons for my 84. I have heard good things about these and they were under $450 mounted, balanced and filled with nitro.

This will be the first time I have tried tires filled with nitrogen. I hear they are suppose to be more stable across temperature and leak less. This could be just hype; however, we shall see what happens.

Best regards,

Is there a A-S tyre that can handle the performance assuming sustained high speed is relatively low ~160kph.

Take a look at tirerack.com (or other sources). They list a bunch of WR-rated A-S tires (just not in stock 16-inch sizes )
