Just an Ebay exercise
I've been itching to get a 5-speed to replace my auto. My car is in too good a condition to replace and I don't want three cars (for now).
For example, there is an '85 manual on ebay right now that I would consider buying for the tranny and associated parts. Actually, an '86.5 would be great because I'd like the brakes too. Again, just an exercise to gauge interest. Not planning on doing anything right now. Would anyone consider a collective buy for the other parts?
I am not trying to make this an exercise in finding all the associated detail expenses (e.g, transporting, storage, salvage). I figure, the expenses may be negligible if there is a group in need of the major components (i.e., we would still come out way ahead compared to the alternative of buying the parts.

When I have free time I’m slowly restoring an ’86.5. I bought some parts and still looking for some more. If you buy a 928 for the conversion, I would be interested in buying some of the parts from that car. I’m mainly after the 3 piece rear rubber spoiler and the lower front spoiler, the side moldings and 2 inner quarter panel covers.
Parting an early 32V should not be a problem at all.

John,
I'm working on an '85 and would be interested in what the '85 has in it that's worth salvaging. I don't have room for another car, but if the price is right, I'd be interested in taking what I need.

I have considered trying to get a group together to buy wrecked and rundown 928s for parts. I have an 11,000 square foot shop I am renovating and will have plenty of room.

Wrecktech,
11,000 square feet. That's a lot of room. My garage doesn't even allow me enough room to open both doors of the car at the same time. I'm jealous.

This would have been my dream car, if I had had more of a choice.
86.5, manual, seat heaters, no rear air, 95K miles - black on black - awesome.
clic pic for listing

We take the parts we want and bring you what remains. We would all have to determine what we are going to get before the purchase so you, wrecktech, know you have some usable/salable parts. This takes care of salvage issue for the rest of us.

I saw the heated seats too. I have them, but I haven't seen too many others.

10 in a group and we would pay ~$120 each and could have bought this 928. There is lots of good parts for the cost. Once I get my shop renovated I hope to have room to allocate space for maybe 8 - 10 complete cars and maybe 200 - 300 square feet for parts.

So far it's only looking like there are three or four of us, but it still might be worth it.
Wrecktech,
If you're Ok with us calling dibs on certain parts when we bid on it initially, then we all get future consideration for what's not used initially, this could work really well. If I knew there was another '85 or two out there in the heartland that had a reasonable chance of having at least a few things that I need, it would be worth the initial investment I'm sure.
What's the timeframe for completion of the shop? My car might be done by then , or not.

I think we need to decide a semi specific game plan and go from there. Another big advantage would be that we would have parts to save other crashed 928s from the graveyard.

I have an 85 and would be interested in replacing my entire interior. It is in very good shape but is brown and I am a huge fan of black. Of course leather would be the preference but I would be interested in vinyl as well. I agree with Porken - black on black is my fav.
I am sure that with a little thought there are other bits and pieces that I would need as well. I am in Canada so the shipping logistics may make me a less desireable partner.

Maybe we need to start a fund. i.e., refundable downpayment for putting a part on the list.
And then we can offer "squares" in wrecktech's renovated space for additional cars - for charity of course.
