I havn't dropped the exhaust yet in favor of dr bob's instructions but I need to pick up a vacuum gauge and lines and another T fitting for it.

If I go the exhaust route will I have drop everything from the headers back?

Yes. My '85 ran very rich for a while, and eventually the car started to loose power. I did the vacuum check, and sure enough- one was plugged. Extra fuel overheats the ceramic substrate, causing it to melt.

I spent $500 to install those cats, since the car didn't have any when I bought it.

Installed an Ott X, and it made a huge difference! I've kept the old cats around just in case they re-institute exhaust testing in south Florida, but I'm getting ready to put a pair of Random-Tech cats back on, since I'm pretty sure I've solved the problem [bad MAF connector].

Best of luck-

N!

I didn't know there was Platinum in the cats. How much would you say is in there?

Also, when I get to around 100mph and it starts to hesitate, if I let off to 3/4 throttle it will slowly accelerate but still hesitate. Its an on and off sort of hesitation. If needed I can mount a camera and let you guys diagnose it.
I know on the supercharged cars, hesitation at higher RPMs can be the result of a mixture which is too rich. If you let off slightly, you deactivate the "WOT" switch and lower the fuel enough to continue accelerating.

Have you noticed your gas mileage being worse lately?

You can try unplugging the battery for a while, then plug it back in and have the computer re-learn. Could also be caused by bad/broken/leaky parts.

Running around without an exhaust is REALLY FREAKIN' LOUD. I'll bet you don't get out of your driveway without being scared of the noise. I started up the supercharged GTS in the garage once without the resonators/muffler. It wasn't bad at idle, but as soon as I rev'd it, I think everyone on my block was looking out their windows. I couldn't imagine what it'd sound like without the center-section too...

If you do happen to do this, make sure you leave the exhaust manifold/header intact. Running without the manifold will kill your exhaust valves as they'll be incredibly hot but subject to cold air from outside.
